The extraordinary things we do–in memory of our mothers.

Mom in the 40's

Mother in the 40′s

So often, we learn about ordinary folks who do extraordinary things in response to some personal experience.  My sister is among those who has been moved to do something out of the ordinary.

She is training now to walk miles upon miles to raise money for a cure for breast cancer.  She walks ten, maybe 15 miles, per day in preparation for the big walk–where many like her meet to raise money for a cure through the Susan Komen 3-day program.

Why does Patti do it? Our own mother died of breast cancer at 53 when Patti was just 16.  This walk is Patti’s way of doing her part not only to remember our mother, but to make a difference for some she knows and so many she does not know.

Visit her personal page (“Breast Cancer 3-Day, Susan Komen for the Cure) at the website below. If you would like to help her–and all of us–visit her personal page.

In case, you don’t get a chance to go to her site, here is what she says:

“…support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer!
The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. My friend Michelle and I have decided to take action and participate in this walk.I will walk for the past, the present and the future.I walk for my Mother, Florence Markham, who lost her battle with breast cancer when I was 16;
I walk for my brave friend, Elaine, who has taken a huge step toward recovery this year;
I walk for my neighbor, Beth who has recovered now over 5 years;
and lastly, I walk for my daughter, Amelia,because finding a cure will mean her generation will never know the fear of wondering if or when she will be the one.”

I acknowledge the efforts of my sister in her dedication. May we all join together in healing ourselves and our earth.

In sisterspirit,

Jacquelyn
