Timmi,

This poem a day challenge was just as it says, "a challenge," but sometimes memories come back and poems are written.

I'm pleased that the atmosphere of this Alabama park seemed real to you!

Yes, I remember! I remember unrolling those window shades and painting the Green letters ERA on them. I remember feeling empowered without knowing exactly why.

Melody,

I like your way of describing the different "focus" on this poem--interesting! Yes, it is zooming out there! Did you notice the images of people marching in the photomontage (in color--not the suffragists)?

You were there! Those are photos I took in 1982 when you, your mom, Gay and I marched on the Capitol in Tallahassee-for ERA.

Can you believe it? Do you remember?

Timmi,

Thank you for your question.

I wrote this poem on the occasion of Susan B. Anthony's birthday and a birthday celebration that I organized for her every year when I lived in Athens, Georgia. We had a great celebration in a little coffee shop called "Downstairs," now gone. I recall music, poetry, art and good conversation--all with a focus on women's equality in honor of Susan B. Anthony.

And of course, I really did have that dream!

I love this poem. It seems a slightly different style than your usual. Zoomed out. I think of your zoomed in images of "Today This Jar of Pickles is My Poem".
